A shocking video has done the rounds on social media showing a student in a French classroom point a gun at a teacher’s head as she projects a slideshow while she was marking homework.

The footage shows a student, who stormed into the classroom, menace his concerned teacher by brandishing a pistol, pointing it at her head, and yelling “put your head down.”

A local newspaper reported that the boy had arrived late to the class and demanded the teacher mark him as “present” on the register despite his tardiness.

Instead of intervening, students can be heard laughing in the background and one fellow student comes into the shot flipping a middle finger to the camera in an act of defiance.

Since the video went viral and elicited extensive anger, the teenager insists that the stunt was a “joke.”

The footage was later revealed to have occurred at the Edouard-Branly High School in the Creteil suburb of Paris in late 2018, but recently went viral and grabbed the attention of internet sleuths.

The 15-year-old suspect, who could not be named for legal reasons, was reported to police by the teacher and turn himself into police accompanied by his father.

He now faces a prison sentence.

The frightened teacher made a complain of “violent threats with a weapon” which carries a maximum sentence of five years behind bars.

Following the report, the unnamed boy maintained that the gun was fake and he had not intended to intimidate the teacher.

Even if the gun was proven to be fake, the charge of “violent threats with a weapon” can still apply to a fake gun, according to Metro.

At the time, French President Emmanuel Macron called the incident “unacceptable.” The incident even triggered a meeting to take place to discuss tackling violence in diverse underprivileged high schools as several Parisian suburbs struggle with gang-related violence from youths of African origin.
