A former State Department employee under Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, David Asher, claimed that their research and analysis showed that there was a 1 in 15 billion chance that the China coronavirus (COVID-19) evolved in nature.

The Chinese most certainly felt that the NIH was supporting their gain of function research into enhancing … the virulence of coronavirus vectors that were radically unnatural. They were not similar to anything that resembled or could occur in natural evolution.
In fact I had virol statisticians at one of our national labs calculate the odds of this evolving in nature and it was like 1 in 13 million and they later revised it to around 1 in 13 billion.”
