White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was grilled on Monday about why unvaccinated illegal migrants can hop the border, but tennis star Novak Djokovic is not being allowed to travel here to participate in the US Open.
Jean-Pierre was questioned by Peter Doocy from Fox News during Monday’s press briefing.
“How come migrants are allowed to come into this country unvaccinated, but world-class tennis players are not?” Doocy asked.
The press secretary initially tried to dance around the question, asking “which world class tennis platyer,” then laughing and claiming that the White House does not comment on visa cases for “privacy reasons.”
Doocy: “How come migrants are allow to come in to this country unvaccinated but world class tennis players are not?”
Jean-Pierre: “Which world class tennis player?”
Doocy: “Novak Djokovic.”

“The U.S. government cannot discuss the details of individual visa cases. Due to privacy reasons, the U.S. also does not comment on medical information of individual travelers as it relates to this tennis player,” she replied.
Jean-Pierre referred Doocy to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, saying that it is their requirement for foreign nationals.
“This is something that they decide,” Jean-Pierre said.
Jean-Pierre also claimed that the issues of the border and normal travelers are “two different things.”
Doocy, unsatisfied with the response, did not relent.

“Somebody unvaccinated comes over on a plane, you say that’s not okay. Somebody walks into Texas or Arizona unvaccinated, they’re allowed to stay?” Doocy pressed.
“That’s not how it works. … It’s not like someone walks over,” Jean-Pierre began.
“That’s exactly what is happening!” Doocy replied. “Thousands of people are walking in a day. Some of them turn themselves over. Some of them are caught. Tens of thousands a week are not. That is what is happening.”
Djokovic was the 2022 Wimbledon champion and will not be allowed to participate in the US Open due to his refusal to get vaccinated.
