“Smart” Feeder System Failure Left Pets Hungry for Over a Week

Does it seem like “smart” products fail more often than not?  There have also been A LOT of reports about them catching fire and exploding (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5).  At least that didn’t happen with the “smart” feeders.

From BBC News:

Owners of a device designed to release food for pets say their animals were left hungry during a week-long system failure.

Petnet allows owners to schedule and control feeding via a smartphone app.

When the BBC contacted Petnet on its advertised email address, the email bounced back with a delivery failure notice.

One pet owner tweeted: “My cat starved for over a week”, while others complained about other hardware issues.

“My three Gen2 feeders constantly jam and won’t dispense food,” wrote another.

BBC News also noted that, “Robots and automated systems have hiccups along the way, it’s something we need to get used to,” according to Pocket-Lint site owner Stuart Miles.

No one likes hiccups and no one needs to get used to them in robots and automated systems.  Everyone could just stop buying them instead.

Another downside with “smart” devices – they emit biologically harmful wireless WiFi radiation which does more than increase cancer risk.  Animals are affected by exposure too (see 1, 2).
