Pelosi Says ‘Element Of Misogyny’ Forced Elizabeth Warren Out

Oh those Democrats, there’s always somebody else to blame.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said those mean old misogynists in the Democratic Party forced Sen. Elizabeth Warren out of the race for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

Pelosi said during a Thursday press conference that there were “great candidates,” specifically touting Warren and Sen. Amy Klobuchar. But men didn’t want them as their nominee.

“I do think that there’s a certain element of misogyny that is there. And some of it isn’t really mean-spirited, it just isn’t their experience,” Pelosi said, adding that some people have “their own insecurities” that keep them from supporting female candidates.

Pelosi also lamented the fact that people think she’s a powerful woman.

“Every time I get introduced as the most powerful woman,” she said, “I almost cry because I’m thinking I wish that were not true. I so wish that we had a woman president of the United States and we came very close to doing that.”

Warren, in a speech announcing she was dropping out of the race this week, also suggested sexism was to blame.

And in an appearance Thursday on Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC show, the host said to Warren, “I think there’s a feeling that your campaign ending is very specific to you and it also feels a little bit like a death knell in terms of the prospects of having a woman president in our lifetimes.”

Warren gasped, saying, “Oh God, please no. That can’t be right.”

“You know what I’m talking about,” Maddow said.

“I know exactly what you’re talking about” Warren said. “This cannot be the right answer.”

But President Trump was asked Friday if sexism was a factor in Warren being forced to pull out of the race and whether he believes he will see a female president in his lifetime.

“No, I think lack of talent was her problem. She had a tremendous lack of talent. She was a good debater, she destroyed Mike Bloomberg very quickly, like it was nothing, that was easy for her. But people don’t like her. She’s a very mean person and people don’t like her. People don’t want that. They like a person like me, that’s not mean,” Trump said.
