A Washington DC staff member for Democrat Senator Maria Cantwell tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday.
Cantwell is a Washington state senator, the state that has been hardest hit by the coronavirus in the US.
At least 21 people have died from the virus in Washington state.
Cantwell will close her DC offices this week for a deep cleaning.
