A child molester who was serving a life sentence after he had sexually abused nine boys was brutally murdered during a fight.

Last Friday, Cesar Pastrana, 33, had served eight years out of his life sentence before he was killed during a fight at Hancock County Jail, Georgia.

Georgia Department of Corrections have signaled that they are treating the death as a homicide, but have not released how the inmate was killed, the name of his suspected killer, or whether it was in connection with his crime.

Pastrana was convicted of multiple counts of child sex abuse in 2012 after he was accused of abusing several minors at an event, including causing physical injuries to one boy.

Two of his nine known victims were relatives, according to Metro.

He was arrested in 2012 days after a weekend-long “lock-in” event sponsored by the city’s NorthStar Church, where he had volunteered.

Following the arrest, he was relieved of his duty at the Church, although he maintained his innocence.

The Church said in a statement: “He denied the allegation, but we immediately released him as a volunteer in our ministry and asked him to not come back to NorthStar.”

However, on February 10, “he pleaded guilty to 10 counts of child molestation, four counts of aggravated child molestation, and one count of aggravated sodomy,” according to AJC.

Before working at the Church, Pastrana managed to pass a background check–despite being fired from his previous employment as a teaching assistant at a school for inappropriate behavior towards a student.
