The New York Times published an opinion piece by an illegal alien in which the author threatened the United States over its response to the Chinese coronavirus outbreak.
“If the American and Mexican governments let us die en masse, we will haunt your children, and your children’s children, and their children too. They will never sleep in peace, and they will come to know our names,” Karla Cornejo Villavicencio said in a piece published Sunday.
According to Cornejo Villavicencio, who admitted to being an illegal alien living in New York city, President Donald J. Trump “believes the medical community’s insistence on quarantine is a conspiracy to destroy his presidency,” but provided no evidence of that outside of another opinion piece published in The Atlantic.
Her larger beef, though, is apparently with the treatment of migrants in Mexico and illegal aliens inside the United States, whom she said are bearing the burden of the global pandemic:
As the mounting toll of the coronavirus comes into view, it’s clear that migrants around the world are among the most vulnerable. They often lack health insurance, struggle to make ends meet and are often in poor health. They don’t have the luxury or the freedom to socially distance themselves from others. The undocumented men and women in our communities are on the front lines — often with no protective equipment or safety net — risking their lives to do the jobs most Americans won’t. They are disinfecting hospitals and doctors’ offices, delivering your food and taking care of your elderly relatives.
Cornejo Villavicencio also took issue with President Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy, which forces asylum seekers to live south of the border while they await U.S. immigration hearings.
The policy was established due to the rampant fraud within the U.S. asylum system, wherein migrants used to claim asylum whether or not they had legitimate cases, be assigned an immigration hearing date, and be released into the United States. Many would never show up to court, and would never be heard from again.
Cornejo Villavicencio painted the “Remain in Mexico” policy as cruel. Migrant encampments in Mexico, she said, are dirty — prime breeding grounds for COVID-19.
All this, despite the fact that there are no confirmed cases of the deadly illness in the migrant camp in the city of Matamoros, the setting for Cornejo Villavicencio’s story.
Still, Cornejo Villavicencio describes the situation with the following hyperbole:
This is a mass killing of vulnerable people of color, preyed on because they dreamed of a better life. Despite the worry now about the asylum-seekers in Matamoros, no one is rushing to help them. People are just rushing to read about this impending mass grave.
Cornejo Villavicencio did not respond to a comment request.
