Health experts (including Dr. Oz) were recommending that we reduce our exposure to all sources of “Electrosmog” long before the World Health Organization (WHO) classified cell phone radiation as “possibly carcinogenic” and THEY started recommending we should reduce our exposure to it too.
Exposure to wireless radiation (5G, Bluetooth, cell phone radiation and WiFi) can compromise our health in a variety of undesirable and sometimes life-threatening ways. It can make us vulnerable to illness (including respiratory illnesses). It can cause cardiac issues (see 1, 2). It can weaken the blood-brain barrier (see 1, 2) and can cause it to leak. Argh! These examples are the tip of a gargantuan iceberg.
Earlier this year IEEE published a paper advising that people avoid wearing activity trackers because of health risks associated with radiation exposure. IEEE isn’t the only one who has issued warnings either (see 1, 2). Wireless watches have been the subject of class action lawsuits, recalls, and a bunch of scary news reports. Wearers have been burned and shocked. Ironically enough, some have also been found to be highly inaccurate.
So it’s always totally nutty when doctors claim these devices are beneficial and scientists encourage people to wear them for research purposes – especially while the world is reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic.
From Forbes:
As coronavirus cases surged worldwide in March, Fitbit observed a global decline in physical activity among its 30 million activity tracker and smartwatch users. As governments implemented shelter-in-place orders, the company recorded a nearly 20 percent decline in weekly step counts in New York and San Francisco. The pandemic may be hampering regular fitness routines, but now Fitbit is exploring whether its wearable devices could help researchers predict if users have a coronavirus infection before they even notice any symptoms.
“We think wearables have a really strong value proposition to add, both to detect, as well as help to track and contain infectious diseases like COVID-19,” says Amy McDonough, senior vice president and general manager, Fitbit Health Solutions.
NUTS!
Wouldn’t it be great if these researchers conducted a study on how many activity tracker wearers came down with COVID-19?! They could include employees at Ford plants and residents at nursing homes who are being forced to wear them. They could also contact the communities requiring emotionally unstable citizens to wear them and the charity who has given them to underserved populations about monitoring their health too. Since farmers are also putting them on their livestock – they could do a study on them as well.
Since there are doctors and scientists still recommending these devices, research possibilities seem endless. Feel better now?
