As autonomous zones across major U.S. cities begin to dominate the news cycle, MSNBC reporter Andrea Mitchell was nearly assaulted by a person in the D.C. autonomous zone.

Authorities attempt to clear out the D.C. autonomous zone named “BHAZ”–a cop-free zone which activists tried to establish close to the White House–going the same way as the short-lived Portland autonomous zone, which drew press attention.

A city block dubbed “Black House Autonomous Zone” was hastily and momentarily barricaded to form the zone. Today, authorities worked to clear out the zone, suffering a similar end to the ill-fated Portland autonomous zone, which was removed after it threatened to encircle the mayor’s condo.

The MSNBC reporter was at the scene with Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) until a bikini-clad person with long whitish blonde hair charges at them, when a man in a black t-shirt and rucksack chases behind, marshalling the assailant away.

In the clip, the assailant appears to be agitated, looking back at the reporter and Rep. Norton threateningly.

Fox News contributor Lisa Boothe commented: “This is scary. I’m glad they are okay. They will probably keep telling the public that these criminals are peaceful though.”

To which Alex Thomas responds: “the congresswoman literally says “where are the police when you need them”.”

The same would-be assailant appears in a different clip, riding a Segway scooter, speaking through a megaphone, telling people to “f*** off.”

Many have queried the political bent of activist groups following the George Floyd riots, that went international.

National File reported on one Black Lives Matter co-founders, who, in a 2015 interview, admitted to being a “trained Marxist” alongside other prominent group members.

The CHOP Seattle autonomous zone, which was described as “peaceful” by Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan, saw a dramatic rise in 911 calls for rape and violent crime in the days following its formation. A fatal double shooting also took place in the cop-free zone.
