The viral gun-toting St. Louis lawyers who defended their property from Black Lives Matter protesters have issued a statement after it was argued that their actions were illegal.
In the statement, the couple maintains that they “lawfully” defended their property in the viral video, and were both threatened and scared as up to 300 protesters entered their gated community and began trespassing on their private property while claiming to protest mayor of St. Louis.
The statement clearly confers the couple’s support for Black Lives Matter and identifies those responsible as white, saying that the majority of protesters were peaceful, but those trespassing meant the couple was justified out of fear of “imminent harm.”
“Both Mr. and Mrs. McCloskey are lawyers whose professional careers have been punctuated by their longstanding commitment to protecting the civil rights of clients victimized at the hands of law enforcement,” the statement reads.

“The peaceful protesters are not subject of scorn or disdain by the McCloskeys,” the statement adds. “To the contrary, they were expecting and supportive of the message of the protesters.”
Blame is cast on a small minority of a commingling destructive minority within the “peaceful protesters,” set on destroying property.
“Both Mr. and Mrs. McCloskey acted lawfully on their property which sits on a private gated lane in the City of St. Louis. Their actions were borne solely out of fear and apprehension, the genesis of which is not race related. In fact, the agitators responsible for the trepidation were white,” the statement explains.
