President Donald Trump is set to pardon his long time adviser Roger Stone before he is remanded to a Georgia prison, sources close to the political strategist tell National File.

Sources close to Stone told the National File that the Stone camp has received confirmation from the President that he will receive a presidential commutation before he is set to begin serving his 40-month prison sentence on Tuesday.

National File’s sources reveal that President Trump and other administration officials have privately discussed Stone’s case and prison sentence during the past several weeks, and President Trump made clear to those party to the conversations that he intends to grant clemency to the veteran political strategist.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), a longtime Stone ally, hinted at the news in a Tuesday tweet.

Maggie Haberman, a reporter for the New York Times, also claimed that Stone is “likely” set to receive a presidential pardon. It is not yet known why Trump is delaying the decision to make Stone’s pardon official.

Stone is directed to report to the Federal Correctional Institution in Jesup, Georgia on July 14. FCI Jesup is a medium security prison housing numerous violent criminals, including crime boss Charles Stango and Islamic State terrorist Muhammad Dakhlalla.

Stone’s legal team has requested an emergency stay on Judge Amy Berman Jackson’s ruling requiring Stone to report to prison. The attorneys noted that Stone’s medical status leaves him especially vulnerable to the novel coronavirus, which has infected numerous inmates and staff at the FCI Jesup prison.

Fox News also reported, quoting anonymous officials within the Trump administration, that President Trump will pardon Stone in the coming days.
