Jessica Doty Whitaker, 24, was shot dead when she was ambushed following a heated discussion with Black Lives Matter supporters where she allegedly told them “all lives matter” as the two groups hotly debated language around the movement.
After the argument was broken up, Whitaker left the scene with her group witnesses claimed, according to Fox59.
However, the other group waited for them to pass by the canal bridge, where they launched their deadly attack.
And now, local artists came together to celebrate the Black Lives Matter movement with a mural to bring a message of hope and equality.
Speaking about the mural, community organizer Alan Bacon said: “It’s motivation, I mean it’s a message that really speaks to unity. You know, having a message painted on one of the most historical streets in Indianapolis—Indiana Avenue—so there’s a history component to what we’re trying to accomplish as well.”
Fox59, in another piece, went onto report that Bacon added: “We’re out here trying to spread the message of love and equality.”
Despite the message of “love and equality,” the mural was set to remain extremely close to where the young mother was mercilessly ambushed and gunned down following an argument with BLM supporters.
Nationalist Review posted a map detailing the exact location of the mural relative to the scene of Whitaker’s murder.
Whitaker’s family was taunted for weeks on social media after the young mother’s murder by Black Lives Matter supporters.
The victim’s fiancé José Ramírez, retelling the events, said: “It was squashed and they went up the hill and left we thought, but they were sitting on St. Claire waiting for us to come under the bridge and that’s when she got shot.”
“She shouldn’t have lost her life. She’s got a 3-year-old son she loved dearly,” Ramírez added. “It’s hard to tell him his mom is in heaven and if you want to talk to her you have to look up and say, ‘I love you mom.’”
Ramírez said that he returned fire, but failed to hit any of the shooters as his fiancée suffered three gunshot wounds to the head and leg.
Since the fatal shooting, a Go Fund Me was set up to help take care of funeral costs and to support the victim’s young motherless son.
The phrase “All Lives Matter” has been deemed to be “racist” by many supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement and has often come with economic consequences.
