One officer has been indicted with three counts of wanton endangerment in the Breonna Taylor case. There have been no murder charges.

Breonna Taylor was shot in her apartment back in March of this year, when three Kentucky police officers entered her apartment in order to execute a warrant relating to a drug investigation of two other men, who were suspected of using her apartment to receive drug packages.

Officer Brett Hankinson was fired in June over the incident. “These rounds created a substantial danger of death and serious injury to Breonna Taylor and the three occupants of the apartment next to Ms. Taylor’s,” a note from LMPD released online reads.

However, Breonna Taylor was not listed as a victim in the indictment of the grand jury. The charge of three counts of wanton endangerment instead relates to the bullets fired by Officer Hankinson that entered other people’s apartments through the walls.

Attorney General Daniel Cameron did confirm that unlike some media reports, the search warrant executed in the Breonna Taylor case was not a “no-knock” warrant. “Evidence shows that officers both knocked and announced their presence at the apartment,” Cameron said. “The officer’s statements about their announcements were corroborated by an independent witness.”

Cameron was asked whether there would be any more charges relating to the case, and he confirmed that there would be no more charges, including murder or manslaughter. “I think it’s unlikely there will be any additional prosecutions that come from that incident itself,” he said. He added that six classes of homicide charges were not justified as Officers Mattingly and Cosgrove were justified in their use of force.

Other members of the press asked him about whether he would release the racial and gender makeup of the members of the grand jury. “It would be inappropriate for me to share that information about the makeup of the grand jury,” Cameron said, arguing that the case was far too sensitive for that to be released.
