A US Representative from Arizona has joined with colleagues in protesting the overt political weaponization of the New York State Attorney General’s office under Letitia James by filing a formal request for an investigation with US Attorney General William Barr.

US Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) wrote a letter to the Attorney General urging him to launch a Justice Department investigation into James, alleging she has been politically weaponized her office to target the President for her own professional gain.

“It seems James is willing to harass the President and ‘anyone in his orbit,’ including makeup charges and foment public opinion against innocent people. This is an outrageous abuse of prosecutorial power,” Biggs wrote.

“James essentially sought to gain power by promising to abuse power,” Biggs continued in the letter. “She even campaigned on passing a bill to change New York’s double jeopardy laws just in case she wanted to sue nonspecific people whom the Administration might one day pardon.”

In September of this year, US Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, and Louisiana Attorney General and Chairman of the Republican Attorneys General Association Jeff Landry wrote separate editorial articles raising concerns over James’ politically motivated actions.

In August it was revealed that in 2019 James had launched a “confidential” investigation into whether President Trump and the Trump Organization “improperly” manipulated the value of their assets on annual financial statements. James investigation centered on the hope that enough evidence would be found to prove Mr. Trump secured loans and obtain tax breaks.

Biggs argued in his letter, as Jordan and Landry also supposed, that James’ actions cross the line into ethical violations. Biggs went so far as to suggest she may have transgressed federal laws.

James, like Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr. were elected with substantial financing from George Soros, who has spent close to $100 million in dark money to fund races for state and local prosecutors.
