Several news media outlets are reporting that Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden is considering New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D), for the position of Attorney General of the United States should he win the General Election in November.

The rumor that Cuomo is the preferred name on Biden’s short list is so widespread among Democrats that members of the National Governors Association, which Cuomo chairs, are looking into who would replace him, according to two sources.

Cuomo, the brother of controversial CNN personality Chris Cuomo, previously served as New York state’s attorney general.

The New York Democrat is under intense fire for his mishandling of the COVID crisis in his state. Cuomo enacted policy that saw more than 6,300 coronavirus patients admitted into vulnerable nursing homes during the height of the pandemic.

New York State now claims the dubious honor of having one of the highest COVID nursing home death tolls in the nation. To date there have been 479,013 confirmed cases of coronavirus in New York state and 32,879 deaths attributed to the pandemic; a full 15 percent of all deaths in the United States.

Richard Azzopardi, a senior advisor to Cuomo, has issued denial statements that the governor has an interest in a job. Azzopardi told reporters that, “One-hundred percent he’s made zero outreach, has had zero conversations about this, and has made his desire to stay in New York clear as day and be governor as long as people want him.”

Cuomo and Biden have a long and intimate relationship that spans decades.
