US House Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), violently spun to racism in response to the concern several members of the Senate Judiciary Committee expressed about any targeting of President Trump’s nominee to the US Supreme Court over her religious convictions.
Several Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee cautioned colleagues in their opening statements of Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation hearings about employing a “religious test” when examining Judge Barrett’s nomination.

Calling those concerned with the employment of a religious test – an action forbidden by Article VI of the US Constitution – “pearl-clutchers”, Omar dismissed the concern of the Senators as “righteous talk about religious freedom” and insisted that “#ShariaLaw” would be trending on social media if a Muslim woman were to have been nominated.
Concern over the employment of a religious test arose after Judge Barrett’s confirmation hearing that elevated her to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals when Senate Judiciary Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) opined that “the dogma lives loudly” in Judge Barrett.

Article VI of the US Constitution plainly states, “[N]o religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.”
Judge Barrett has repeatedly stated that her religious beliefs wouldn’t play a role in her decision making if confirmed to the High Court.
Barrett’s confirmation hearings began Monday October 12, 2020 and are scheduled to wrap up on Thursday October 14, 2020.
