In a move that can only be seen as absurd, a group of Progressive lawmakers, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and “The Squad,” have penned a letter to the United Nations asking the impotent world body to open an investigation into abuse of illegal immigrant detainees at the hands of ICE agents.

The five-page letter was sent Friday and listed a litany of unfounded accusations and complaints claiming that the nature and “sheer number” of complaints “necessitates and international response.”

“These allegations illustrate a clear pattern of alleged human rights violations by DHS,” the letter reads. “This pattern of behavior is perpetuated and encouraged by the consistent and unforgivable failure of the United States government and its institutions to take these allegations seriously by investigating them in a transparent, thorough, and impartial manner.”

The letter was signed by Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Mark Pocan (D-WI), as well as “Squad” freshmen Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Ilhan Omar (D-MN), as well as Reps. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA), Alan Lowenthal (D-CA), and Veronica Escobar (D-TX).

The move by the Progressive group came after the President was asked during the last presidential debate about reports that the parents of 545 children who were separated at the border were missing. Records show that each of those minors were released to a legal parent or guardian before June of 2018.

The letter to Michelle Bachelet, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, included allegations of forced sterilization of female illegal immigrant detainees.

The Office of the Inspector General, which has independent oversight authority throughout the US Department of Homeland Security, issued a statement that, in part, red, “The accusations will be fully investigated by an independent office, however, ICE vehemently disputes the implication that detainees are used for experimental medical procedures.”

During World War II, the Nazi SS under Dr. Josef Mengele, performed barbaric medical testing and research on prisoners of war. These atrocities were uncovered when US Army soldiers liberated death camps throughout Europe. These atrocities led to the Trials at Nuremberg.

Meanwhile, President Trump announced the opening of the DHS Center for Countering Human Trafficking, the first government entity to support federal criminal investigations of human trafficking, and to assist victims of human trafficking and forced labor.
