Election official in South Florida’s Broward County, a traditionally cobalt-blue Democrat haven, have thwarted an attempt to register dead people as Democrats, and act that is a precursor to voter fraud.
Steven Vancore, Broward County Supervisor of Elections spokesperson, said someone tried to register dozens of dead people as Democrats over the summer in Florida’s second-most populous county.
“Fortunately, the system we have in place works, the improper registrations were flagged in a timely manner and the information was turned over to law enforcement for prosecution,” Vancore said. “We are also pleased to inform you that there was no attempt by this person or persons to cast a ballot.”
The Broward County supervisor of elections flagged the fake registrations as “suspicious” and turned them over to the Broward County state attorney’s office.
Officials couldn’t ascertain who mailed the registrations because there was no return address, but said they were mailed in 19 separate envelopes. Thirty of the 51 fake registrants were verified by the state attorney’s office as being deceased.
The South Florida SunSentinel, broke the story reporting that an individual – or group of individuals – from South Carolina submitted approximately 50 voter applications to the Broward elections office. Thirty of those applications were for people who were dead.
