One of the world’s most widely used ticket-sales and distribution companies has big plans for how they will handle concerts and other entertainment events where the coronavirus is concerned. If you thought the idea of “tracking” was invasive, you haven’t seen Ticketmaster’s plans.
The behemoth ticketing and ticket distribution company is one-upping their game for the post-coronavirus world where concerts and other large tickets gathering are concerned, crafting a world in which your event tickets will show information related to your COVID status.
Under the guise of public health safety, Ticketmaster wants to issue concertgoers digital tickets that will indicate whether they have been vaccinated for COVID or have recently tested negative for the virus in the days leading up to the event.
The information, they explain, will be stored with third-party healthcare providers in compliance with HIPPA medical information privacy laws.

“We imagine there will be many third-party health care providers handling vetting – whether that is getting a vaccine, taking a test, or other methods of review and approval – which could then be linked via a digital ticket so everyone entering the event is verified,” Ticketmaster President Mark Yovich said. “Ticketmaster’s goal is to provide enough flexibility and options that venues and fans have multiple paths to return to events.”
Ticketmaster is also tossing around the technical needs for a new app called SmartEvent.
SmartEvent will be equipped with a tool that would allow event organizers to measure out social distancing when deciding on a venue for any given event. Additionally, it would facilitate a schedule for timed-entry and entry-rate tools that would compartmentalize attendees into groups to mandate entry and exit times to cut down on congestion.
