A government minister has confirmed that the UK will abolish all mask mandates next month in an effort to “get back to normal.”
Environment secretary George Eustice told Sky News that the government wants “all of the legal requirements to do things to be taken away completely” when the country exits its final lockdown restrictions on July 19th.
“Whether there will still be some people who might choose to wear masks or whether it may be advisory in some settings, that’s a separate matter,” he said.
“But the objective of that final stage is to remove the legal requirement to do these things,” remarked Eustice, adding that he personally would choose not to wear a mask in order to “get back to normal.”
“I think a lot of people will want to shed those masks,” said Eustice.
As we highlighted yesterday, forcing customers to wear face masks has already cost businesses billions, with venues such as the arts, cinemas and business events set to lose substantial percentages of their turnover if the rules remain in place.

The news is sure to come as a disappointment to those who have turned face masks into a bizarre symbol of cult conformity.
In addition, there are likely to be millions of terrified jellyfish who have developed COVID-19 anxiety syndrome who will continue to wear them for months or even years into the future anyway.
However, the lifting of restrictions is by no means certain, with England’s ‘freedom day’ having already been delayed by a further 4 weeks.
Government advisers who have become drunk on power during the pandemic are also pushing for some restrictions, such as mask wearing, to be kept in place forever.
Yesterday, Special Envoy on Covid for the World Health Organisation (WHO). Dr David Nabarro also demanded that social distancing and mask mandates remain in place indefinitely so long as there are new COVID variants (a period which could last for years).
