From the chamber floor US Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) recently called out the “chief executive, the basement dweller” for not pursuing the gun crimes by his son, Hunter. Rep. Boebert specified “Hunter Biden lied on his federal firearms application which is punishable by up to 10 years and a $250,000 fine – of which 10% will not be going to the big guy.”
Earlier in her two minute 40 second speech she recognized her Democrat colleagues for “encouraging millions of Americans to celebrate their second amendment rights by purchasing their first, second or even 100th firearm.” She applauded while remarking, “Bravo. Well done.”
Although she did not give a source for her assertion regarding firearms purchases one needs only to review the number of NCIS background checks to see American’s are interested in exercising their second amendment rights this year. From the beginning of the year through June there have been over 3 million more NCIS background checks completed. There have been more checks completed this year than in the entire year of 2013 or earlier.
The month this year with the most background checks, 4.69 million, was March when President Biden signed for another round of stimulus checks.
The background checks are usually required when purchasing a firearm from a federally firearms licensed dealer. The checks are also completed when applying for certain types of gun permits in some states. Only one background check, however, is completed when purchasing multiple firearms at the same time so the number of actual guns transferred to citizens probably is higher.
Americans own more guns per capita and total number of guns than any other nation according to the Small Arms Survey in Switzerland. That survey in 2017 showed the ‘Land of the Free’ own 46% of all civilian-owned guns on the planet, and had 120.5 firearms for every 100 people in the country.
The United States nearly doubles the second place nation for guns per capita. The tiny Falkland Islands are in the number 2 spot with just over 62.1 firearms per 100 inhabitants. The Falklands boasts a population of only 3000, however. War-torn Yemen comes in at third with 52.8 civilian-owned guns per 100 residents.
The Congresswoman went on to joke, “interest has begun to peak when it comes to the sale of F15s” referencing memes mocking the President’s insistence late last month American’s would “need F-15s and maybe some nuclear weapons” to take on the government. The subsequent memes seemed to largely accept President Biden’s terms.
