Internal NYPD Survey Reveals Over Half Of Officers Wish They’d Never Joined The Force

The internal department survey of about 6,000 uniformed officers, first obtained by The New York Post, indicated that over half of the police officers in the department wish that they never joined the force. 79% of respondents polled stated that they don’t believe New York City will be safer in two years.

In addition to 56% of police officers stating that they wouldn’t put on the badge if they had to do it all over again, a majority feel the public disrespects (46% agree, 42% disagree) and distrusts (44% agree, 41% disagree) law enforcement. “There is no other profession that is scrutinized as much as we are,” one 16-year-veteran NYPD sergeant told The Post. “The far-left leaning politics are absolutely destroying the city of New York.”

According to the NYPD, crime has risen from October 2020 to October 2021. Overall crime rose 11.2%, robbery is up 15.8%, and felony assault rose by 13.8%.

An overwhelming majority of law enforcement officials (about 80%) that were polled feared combating criminal activity in the city because of the threat of criminal liability, being sued, or being unfairly disciplined. Qualified immunity was revoked by the New York City Counsel in March 2021, which protected law enforcement from civil lawsuits.

“New York City police officers are well past our breaking point, and Mayor de Blasio and the outgoing City Council are still piling on with policies that punish cops and erode public safety,” Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch told The Post. “The intolerable environment and our substandard pay has every cop looking to get out as soon as they can. Our new leaders have a real mess to clean up. They need to start by supporting the beleaguered cops on the street.”

Since Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis has offered that law enforcement could relocate to the Sunshine State, over a dozen police officers from NYPD have reportedly signed with Florida to be law enforcement.
