Washington Post: Pelosi ‘Is Expected’ To Retire After 2022 Midterms

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may finally retire in 2022.

House Democrats are “preparing for the post-Pelosi era,” the Washington Post claimed in a headline published on Sunday.

“House Democrats are bracing for a turnover in leadership next year that would amount to a seismic event for the party,” the publication notes. “After almost 19 years as House Democratic leader, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) is expected to step down at the close of this Congress, ending a historic career that included trying to end George W. Bush’s Iraq War, implementing President Barack Obama’s signature health-care law, impeaching President Donald Trump twice and squeezing President Biden’s sweeping agenda through a narrowly controlled House.”

As a plurality of Americans rejects Covid mandates, hyperinflation, the dismantling of the U.S. military and the decline of the United States as a superpower, Joe Biden’s disapproval rate has reached historic heights.

Unless Democrats employ a midterm election variant” to push for another national mail-in-vote, Republicans have an advantage in taking back a majority in the House of Representatives in November 2022.

“White men who are mulling a run” that represent the “old guard” of “octogenarian, like Reps. Adam Schiff, D – Calif., and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D -Md.  are unqualified for the position because of their race as the party “look[s] for more diversity at the top,” the Post surmised.

Selecting a non-white member of Congress to replace 81-year-old Pelosi is a priority, Rep. Joyce Beatty, D -Ohio, who chairs the Congressional Black Caucus, told the publication.

“If we are playing ‘what if there is ever a change,’ I think it is very important and would have no problem saying that, if I had a crystal ball, I would want the leadership to be reflective of this wonderful democracy in America we live in,” Beatty said. “Certainly I would like to be able to say that I was part of the process that had the first Black American to be speaker of the U.S. Congress.”

Majority Whip James E. Clyburn, D- SC, said he won’t “step away from seeking a leadership position whenever Pelosi decides to leave ” and blasted younger members for “being impatient for a generational change at the top” rather than embracing the Democrat establishment.

“I don’t know. I don’t understand it. I’ll just simply say this: We have to be very, very careful. There has to be a healthy balance of strength and experience,” Clyborn told the Post.

The South Carolina congressman who’s held his seat since 2003 claimed his race stands in the way of him becoming the next Democrat leader, contending, “If I had gotten elected in my 30s like so many of the White folks did, I may have retired by now, but I didn’t get to until my 50s because the laws worked against me.”

According to a Gallup poll published Dec. 27, Americans have as much disdain against Biden as they do for Pelosi with 58 percent of respondents disapproving of the California Democrat’s handling of her job.
