Over the years there has been opposition and warnings worldwide about various catastrophic issues associated with broadband satellites (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) and similar vehicles being launched into space. In fact, insurance companies are less willing to insure satellites due to collision risks. Earlier this year, 40 SpaceX Starlink satellites also fell from orbit and burned.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is supposed to protect Americans by regulating the telecom industry. It has instead catered to the industry for decades (see 1, 2). Numerous lawsuits have been filed against the agency including one by a group of telecom experts, “The Irregulators”. According to their lawsuit, Americans have already paid for telecom-related services that many have still not received. Adding insult to injury, taxpayer dollars continue to be given to telecom companies (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) that are primarily deploying inferior, unreliable, and unsafe and Wi-Fi and 5G (see 1, 2, 3) – including via satellites – instead of safer, more secure, and more reliable broadband options like fiber optics to the premises (FTTP) and/or copper landline connections.
Recently, a group working with the Broadband International Legal Action Network (BBILAN) asked the FCC to pause SpaceX satellite launching for 180 days and to consider safer broadband deployment options instead. This is NOT the first petition submitted to the FCC requesting a pause.
