The National Association for Gun rights has demanded U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) apologize after his co-sponsorship of gun control legislation earlier this month.
The pro-Second Amendment group slammed Cornyn, “demanding that he apologize after he called Texas GOP activists a ‘mob’ in the wake of his support for federal gun control legislation.”
In an email, the group wrote, “During the Texas GOP convention this past weekend, Senator Cornyn was met with loud boos and chants of ‘No Red Flag’ when he got on stage to deliver a speech.”
“Gun rights activists were peacefully voicing their displeasure with Sen. Cornyn and the gun control legislation he’s been fighting to pass in the U.S. Senate.”
Footage from the Texas convention shows Cornyn received many jeers and boos from the crowd during his speech.
Chants of “No more gun control” and “Go back home” can be heard amongst the loud jeers.

Cornyn reaffirmed his gun control stance after the event, saying, “I’ve never given in to mobs and I’m not starting today.”
Cornyn is one of ten Republicans supportive of a gun control bill led by Democrats that would support federal red flag laws and a ban on straw purchases of firearms, amongst other provisions.
Many Republicans are against red flag laws because it may be considered a violation of the Constitution’s due process provision.
Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) ripped into Cornyn’s bill while speaking on Tucker Carlson Tonight on Monday.
“What we ought to be doing is a crime bill that will focus on criminals. Not law-abiding citizens, criminals,” the U.S. Senator said.

Hawley said there is an “increasing high likelihood” that this bill could pass through the Senate.
The ten Republicans that may have infuriated their base by supporting the gun-control measure are: Lindsey Graham (SC) Mitt Romney (UT) Pat Toomey (PA) John Cornyn (TX) Susan Collins (ME) Thom Tillis (NC) Richard Burr (NC) Roy Blunt (MO) Bill Cassidy (LA) Rob Portman (OH)
