U.S. House Representative and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) lauded the efforts of law enforcement and Washington D.C. police officers who were on duty during the Capitol protests on January 6th, 2021 at a Congressional Gold Medal award ceremony in Washington D.C. on Tuesday.
“Today we pay tribute to their service and sacrifice on January 6th. These brave men and women in uniform stood strong in the line of duty for their country and we’re forever grateful for that,” McCarthy said. “This congressional gold medal commemorates their courage, professionalism, and patriotism.”
"There is no more fitting place to show our gratitude than the rotunda of the capitol, a room that is a symbol of a sacred building, a symbol of a great nation, a symbol of freedom and self-government, here and throughout the world," McCarthy said in praise of J6 police officers. pic.twitter.com/GfSCw3tEXN

“There is no more fitting place to show our gratitude than the rotunda of the capitol, a room that is a symbol of a sacred building, a symbol of a great nation, a symbol of freedom and self-government, here and throughout the world,” McCarthy stated. “The Capitol Police and D.C. police are valued members of this community, but they are also members of another community; the community of law enforcement, the brotherhood of law enforcement.”
“By awarding them the congressional gold medal, we’re not only honoring them for protecting our nation and community on January 6th, but we’re honoring them for the essential brotherhood as well. ”
On January 12th, 2021, McCarthy made comments about January 6th on the floor of the House which denounced rally-goers as criminals.
“Let me be clear, last week’s violent attack on the Capitol was un-democratic, un-American, and criminal. Violence is never a legitimate form of protest…Yet the violent mob that descended upon this body was neither peaceful nor democratic,” McCarthy said.
Moreover, McCarthy blamed then-President, Donald Trump, for the events which transpired on the 6th, despite the fact Trump told supporters to demonstrate “peacefully.”
“The president bears responsibility for Wednesday’s attack on Congress by mob rioters,” McCarthy said. “He should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding. These facts require immediate action by President Trump.”
In February, McCarthy endorsed the version of events purported to have happened on January 6th by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which asserted that the events transpired without any outside influence from federal crisis actors and government informants.
The “J6 Committee” attempted to use a tweet from FBI Confidential Informant (CI), Enrique Torrio, as evidence of incrimination that Trump caused an “insurrection.”
How much of a sham is the January 6 Committee hearing? They are using as evidence a social media post *from a known FBI informant* as evidence that Trump inspired the “insurrection” https://t.co/gyBP3ebP1h pic.twitter.com/fzCDfLegPa

Despite dozens of eyewitnesses and evidence to the contrary, FBI Director Christopher Wray has declined to reveal if FBI operatives “dressed as Trump supporters” were present during the events in D.C. on January 6th.
FBI Special Agent Stephen Friend stated in October he was suspended without pay for his refusal to participate in what he said were “heavy-handed” raids of J6 “suspects.”
Friend asserted that although financial bonuses were not given for child exploitation cases, they were offered for FBI officials who executed January 6th “investigations” and subsequent raids.
