Former President Donald Trump ripped into Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and McConnell’s allies in the Senate on Monday.
Trump pushed for primary challengers to take out Sen. McConnell (R-KY) and any GOP Senators who vote with McConnell. The former president encouraged Republicans to “stop” McConnell after the Senate recently approved a $1.7 trillion dollar spending bill, just before Republicans were able to take control of the House.
“We must now stop Mitch McConnell and his China flagrant boss, Coco Chow. It’s as though he just doesn’t care anymore, he pushes through anything the Democrats want. The $1.7 TRILLION quickly approved Bill of the week before was HORRIBLE,” the 78-year-old former president posted to Truth Social, referring to Sen. McConnell’s wife Elaine Chao as “Coco Chow.”
“Zero for USA Border Security. If he waited just ten days, the now “United Republican Congress” could have made it MUCH BETTER, or KILLED IT. Something is wrong with McConnell, and those Republican Senators that Vote with him. PRIMARY THEM ALL,” Trump added.
Multiple GOP senators voted to approve the omnibus spending bill, which passed last month in a total vote of 68-29. The bill was rushed through the Senate so it could be passed the next day in the Democrat-controlled House of Republicans.
A list of GOP senators who supported the $1.7 spending package: John Boozman of Arkansas, Roy Blunt of Missouri, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Susan Collins of Maine, John Cornyn of Texas, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, James Inhofe of Oklahoma, Todd Young of Indiana, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Jerry Moran of Kansas, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Rob Portman of Ohio, Mitt Romney of Utah, Mike Rounds of South Dakota, Richard Shelby of Alabama, John Thune of South Dakota, Roger Wicker of Mississippi
Wicker and Romney are the only two GOP senators that could face a primary in 2024.
