Trump Demands Biden Witch Hunts be Defunded

Last Updated on September 21, 2023

President Trump took to Truth Social Wednesday night to demand that House Republicans not pass a CR that does not defund the Biden DOJ’s witch hunts against him and his supporters. Matt Gaetz has promised to vacate the chair if Speaker McCarthy fails to defund Jack Smith.

Trump wrote on TruthSocial, “A very important deadline is approaching at the end of the month. Republicans in Congress can and must defund all aspects of Crooked Joe Biden’s weaponized Government that refuses to close the Border, and treats half the Country as Enemies of the State. This is also the last chance to defund these political prosecutions against me and other Patriots. They failed on the debt limit, but they must not fail now. Use the power of the purse and defend the Country!”

Trump made it clear to Speaker McCarthy that he cannot fail like he did in June. Last June, McCarthy could have used the power of the purse to defund the Biden DOJ witch hunts against Trump and his supporters. Instead of doing this, McCarthy decided to do a debt ceiling deal with Biden and Schumer that funded Biden’s prosecutions of Trump and his supporters. So many GOP members of Congress opposed McCarthy’s June deal that McCarthy had to rely on Democrat support to pass the bill.

Matt Gaetz quoted Trump’s statement and called on fellow GOP reps to join him in holding the line, posting on X, “Trump Opposes the Continuing Resolution. Hold the line.”

Gaetz has promised GOP voters he will vacate the chair if Speaker McCarthy fails to defund Jack Smith. The CR deadline is September 30th.
