Statue erected as symbol of unified nation being removed by Communists Biden administration
The Reconciliation Monument, or the Confederate Memorial, located at the Arlington National Cemetery could soon be removed from the property due to a Pentagon decision.
GOP lawmakers, led by Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA), sent a letter on Monday to Biden Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin requesting the memorial be left alone until the end of 2024, potentially allowing a new presidential administration to scrap the plan.
44 Republican elected officials signed the letter, writing, “Despite bipartisan support for this monument, the Naming Commission, established by the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, clearly overstepped its legislative authority when it recommended that the Department of the Army remove the Reconciliation Monument from Arlington National Cemetery.”
“The DOD plans to remove the Reconciliation Monument—which represents national unity—from Arlington National Cemetery,” Clyde wrote on 𝕏 Thursday. “I’m demanding Sec. Austin pause the removal until the appropriations process is complete, as we fight to defund this misguided move.”
President William McKinley issued the creation of the Reconciliation Monument in 1900 as a way of celebrating the success of a reunified nation post-Civil War.
The historic monument is set to be removed from the sacred burial grounds on December 18th, one week before Christmas.
