Venezuelan illegal wanted for murder in U.S. Virgin Islands arrested after dangerous Texas pursuit
Authorities rounded up a pair of teenage smuggling suspects and three illegal aliens, including one wanted for murder, following a high-speed chase and bailout in Texas over the weekend.
The bust unfolded on Saturday in Maverick County, near the Mexican border.
Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) troopers attempted to pull over a pickup truck for a traffic violation when the driver began taking evasive action.
TxDPS released footage of the chase on Tuesday.
Troopers pursued the truck along US 277 before the driver suddenly exited the pavement and barreled through a ranch fence at high speed.
All of the occupants exited the SUV and attempted to flee on foot.
“With assistance from DPSโ Aircraft Operations Division, Troopers on the ground located all five individuals. Additionally, Troopers located a handgun inside the vehicle and learned that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Austin,” TxDPS explained in a press release.
“All three illegal immigrants were referred to US Border Patrol, including one identified as Gerardo Jose Ojeda-Montiel, 33, of Venezuela. Ojeda-Montiel is wanted for murder out of the US Virgin Islands.”
The driver, identified as Daniele Lopez-Vasquez, 19, of Austin, TX, and passenger, identified as Brian Guzman, 19, of Del Valle, TX, were taken into custody and both charged with evading arrest, smuggling of persons, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
