South Carolina Bans Gender Transition Procedures for Minors

State becomes 25th to restrict or ban child sterilization and mutilation under the guise of “gender affirming care.”

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster just signed into law a ban on gender transition procedures to minors.

McMaster signed the “Health Not Harm” bill Tuesday and announced he would hold a ceremony next week celebrating the state’s efforts to protect children from the irreversible procedure.

With this move, South Carolina has become the 25th state to restrict or ban child sterilization and mutilation procedures that operate under the guise of “gender affirming care.”

“The law bars health professionals from performing gender-transition surgeries, prescribing puberty blockers and overseeing hormone treatments for patients under 18,” reports ABC News. “School principals or vice principals would have to notify parents or guardians if a child wanted to use a name other than their legal one, or a nickname or pronouns that did not match their sex assigned at birth.”
