Fake News Tweet Suggesting Trump Will Resign to Avoid Prison Goes Viral on TikTok

A fake news tweet alleged to come from a “GOP source” suggesting Trump would resign before the election to avoid prison has gone viral on TikTok.

Liberal journalist Yashar Ali called out the issue, tweeting, “Jon Cooper’s false tweet is spreading on TikTok. This is the fifth TikTok I’ve seen with his tweet. Jon has no sources and makes stuff up for resistance retweets.”

Cooper, who is National Finance Chair for Draft Biden 2016, claimed, “Trump is being advised to resign in honor rather than leave in defeat. He fears prison.” The tweet was subsequently deleted.

Ali showcased a clip of one of the TikTok videos, which shows a woman dancing in celebration that the claim is true.

The journalist called on Twitter to alter its verification program given that Cooper’s conspiracy theories are gaining traction because his account has a blue checkmark.

This is the second time Cooper has promoted fake news about Trump in recent days.

After President Trump was diagnosed with COVID, Cooper ludicrously asserted, “Trump’s condition is serious. He can go either way. Despite all the meds and the presidential care, they could lose him within 3 to 4 days.”

That tweet was also deleted by Cooper after it became clear that Trump was making a rapidly successful recovery.

Cooper’s coronavirus tweet was not restricted in any way by Twitter, despite the company’s policy of removing so-called “misinformation” about the pandemic.

President Trump has had several tweets removed in recent months under the same justifcation, yet Cooper’s fake news is allowed to circulate.

As we previously highlighted, all kinds of bizarre conspiracy theories, including the claim by Michael Moore that Trump had faked his entire COVID diagnosis, were allowed to go viral after it was announced Trump had contracted corona.
