NJ House Democrat Calls 126 GOP Colleagues ‘Traitors’ for Supporting Texas Lawsuit

Bill Pascrell, US Capitol Building

US Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) has labeled 126 Republican colleagues in the House of Representatives “traitors” for supporting the Texas lawsuit against the unconstitutional election processes in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Georgia.

Pascrell, who previously filed Bar Association complaints against Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani and 22 of his team members seeking disbarment, sent a letter Friday urging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), to block 126 Republicans from assuming their elected offices in the House because of their support for the Texas lawsuit challenging the 2020 elections in the four Defendant States.

Pascrell ignorantly portrayed the lawsuit as having been filed by President Trump. The lawsuit was filed by the Attorney General of Texas and enjoined by six other states Attorney Generals. Amicus briefs were filed by 17 states Attorney Generals. President Trump intervened in the suit.

The partisan New Jersey Democrat’s letter calls out the 126 Republicans who joined “the president’s lawsuit,” calling them “traitors.”

“The courageous Reconstruction Congress implanted into our governing document safeguards to cleanse from our government ranks any traitors and others who would seek to destroy the Union,” Pascrell wrote.

The 12-term professional politician, who has never held a job outside politics, went on to quote from the 14th Amendment, Section 3:

“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.”

Pascrell bastardized the portion of the amendment – instituted after the US Civil War, that alluded to “insurrection or rebellion.”

“I call on you to exercise the power of your office to evaluate steps you can take to address these constitutional violations of this Congress and, if possible, refuse to seat in the 117th Congress any Members-elect seeking to make Donald Trump an unelected dictator,” Pascrell wrote.

Pascrell’s letter was addressed to both Pelosi and House Administration Committee Chairwoman Zoe Lofgren. US Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), backed Pascrell’s call in a tweet.
