Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul to Become New York’s First Female Governor After Cuomo’s Humiliating Resignation

New York Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul (D) will become the state’s fist woman governor after Andrew Cuomo’s humiliating resignation.

Hochul, 62, is a former member of Congress from Upstate New York.

“I agree with Governor Cuomo’s decision to step down. It is the right thing to do and in the best interest of New Yorkers,” Kathy Hochul said. “As someone who has served at all levels of government and is next in the line of succession, I am prepared to lead as New York State’s 57th Governor.”

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo resigned in disgrace on Tuesday.

Cuomo killed thousands of elderly New Yorkers with his order to send Covid-infected people back into nursing homes – but he was ultimately forced out over sexual harassment allegations.

“The best way I can help now is if I step aside and let the government get back to governing,” Cuomo said. “And that’s what I’ll do…”

Cuomo added, “My resignation will be effective in 14 days.”
