Minnesota National Guard Major General Johanna Clyborne tweeted a complaint Thursday night about the Army’s ban on French manicures. Clyborne illustrated her complaint with a photo in an office showing her left hand with her nails covered after a manicure to change from the French one and that showed her feet with nail polish propped on her desk. Clyborne’s complaint about manicures was posted the day after it was revealed troop suicides have increased by 46 percent this year..
“Why the Army thinks a French Manicure is an “obnoxious” color compared to the civilian world which views it as an understated yet professional look is beyond me. But I have to be in uniform tomorrow, so here we are. It looked nice while it lasted.”

“AR 670-1 considers it an unnatural color. You can however wear an American manicure but it’s a weird pink that doesn’t look as nice. Balancing a civilian professional look with the easy of switch in and out of uniform as often as I do and still be compliant can be a challenge.”

“I’ll be sure to remove the tin foil before getting into uniform. Good idea on the study. The revised AR670-1 heads in the right direction to help balance the two. Honestly b/c my duties require far more then a drill a mo I normally don’t wear nail polish but I had a special event”
