That escalated quickly. Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) found herself in hot water on Twitter Tuesday with her reaction to President Trump warning the next two weeks would be “very painful” in the COVID-19 Chinses coronavirus crisis. Omar posted an Islamic saying, “Subhanallah!” that some interpreted as praise, rather than an expression of shock.
Omar quickly added a clarification, “Islamophobes, this is the same as “good god”

👀 Islamophobes, this is the same as “good god”.

While some disputed Omar’s explanation as the phrase can be used in different situations, however an online religious dictionary seems to back her up.
…Typically, the term is used to marvel not at ordinary good luck or achievement but rather at the wonders of the natural world. For example, Subhanallah would be an appropriate term to use when viewing a magnificent sunset—but not to thank God for a good grade on an exam.
…Muslims also say Subhanallah during times of personal trial and struggle, as a “remembrance of purpose and a refuge in the beauty of creation.”
One poster apparently did not take Omar at her word and posted a verse from the Quran on adultery Wednesday morning, “Nor come nigh to fornication/adultery: for it is a shameful (deed) and an evil, opening the road (to other evils).” — Qur’an, Sura 17 (Al-Isra), ayat 3″

Less than fifteen minutes later Omar, who has been accused of adultery and marrying her own brother, fired back with Quran verse of her own that calls for flogging (whipping) those who falsely accuse “chaste women” of adultery, ““And those who accuse chaste women, and produce not four witnesses, flog them with eighty stripes, and reject their testimony forever. They indeed are the Faasiqoon (liars, rebellious, disobedient to Allaah)” [al-Noor 24:4].”

Omar recently married her campaign consultant Tim Mynett after the couple were accused in divorce papers filed last year by his wife of adultery. Omar and Mynett each divorced their respective spouses within the past year and announced their marriage on March 11 via Instagram.
Omar is reportedly being investigated by the FBI for immigration fraud by marrying her brother so he could remain in the United States.
Later Wednesday, Omar tried to walk back the flogging tweet, agreeing with a poster who said she didn’t actually mean it.
Don’t mind them, it’s April fools and all the fools are out in full force yet again in my mentions.
Rational though isn’t easily found with bigots or religious fanatics 🤦🏽♀️ https://t.co/1hNHE3f9VR
