Project Veritas published a video on Tuesday in which veteran New York Times reporter Matthew Rosenberg revealed his thoughts on the outlet’s January 6 coverage. Rosenberg, who works as a National Security Correspondent for the NYT, said media coverage of the January 6 election protests was excessive and overblown. Rosenberg also poked fun at some of his colleagues who said they were “traumatized” by the event.
“All these colleagues who were in the building, and they’re young and are like, ‘Oh my God, it was so scary,’” Rosenberg said in a clip posted by Project Veritas. “I’m like, ‘F*** off.’”
“It’s not the kind place I can tell somebody to man up, but I kind of want to be like, ‘Jude, come on, like, you were not in any danger,” Rosenberg continued. He also referred to his “New York Times colleagues as “f***ing b***hes” for claiming to be traumatized.

The NYT veteran later said he thought the outlet’s coverage of the January 6 election protests was overly sensational. From Rosenberg:
“The Left’s reaction to it in some places was so over the top that it gave the opening the Right needed to start introducing the idea of, ‘Whoa, these people are out of control. Like it’s not as big a deal as they’re making it.’ Cause [the Left] were making too big a deal. They were making it some organized thing that it wasn’t. And that gave the opening for the lunatics in the Right to be like, ‘Oh, well, nothing happened here. It was just a peaceful bunch of tourists,’ you know, and it’s like, but nobody wants to hear that.”
Rosenberg has taken a different tone on January 6 from an editorial perspective, however. In January, Rosenberg co-authored a piece titled, “The Next Big Lies: January 6 was No Big Deal, or a Left-Wing Plot.” The piece was heavy on the sensational coverage that Rosenberg privately mocked in the new Project Veritas video. The authors claim that Mike Pence’s life was “in danger” and repeatedly refer to the protests as an “insurrection” or a “coup attempt.”
The piece also names Tucker Carlson and criticizes him for downplaying media coverage of the protests. “Jan. 6 barely rates as a footnote,” Carlson said on the one-year anniversary of the event.
“Mr. Carlson has emerged as a leading proponent of Jan. 6 revisionism, most prominently with his three-part ‘Patriot Purge’ series,” wrote Rosenberg and his colleagues regarding Carlson’s statement. They went on to say that accusations of federal involvement in the violence that day has been “debunked.”

In the Project Veritas video, Rosenberg revealed that his managing editor privately has the same take as Carlson. The NYT veteran’s managing editor reportedly asked him to do a wrap up piece on January 6 and to “memory-hole” it. “Like maybe it’s no big deal,” said the managing editor in reference to January 6.
Project Veritas has said that Tuesday’s video will be the first in a series of undercover clips focusing on Rosenberg.
