Patagonia To Pay Bail For Employees Who Are Arrested Protesting SCOTUS Decision

Prominent clothing brand Patagonia announced intentions to bail out any employees who are arrested protesting the recent SCOTUS decision which overturned Roe v. Wade.

Speaking on Linkedin, the Patagonia announced it would bail out employees who chose to “peacefully protest” in support of “reproductive justice.”

“Caring for employees extends beyond basic health insurance, so we take a more holistic approach to coverage and support overall wellness to which every human has a right,” the company wrote.

“That means offering employees the dignity of access to reproductive health care. It means supporting employees’ choices around if or when they have a child,” they added. “It means giving parents the resources they need to work and raise children.”

The company intends to provide training “and bail for those who peacefully protest for reproductive justice” for both part-time and full-time employees.

Employees living in areas where “restrictions exist” that are seeking “abortion care” will have all “travel, lodging and food” paid for by the company.

Speaking to Axios, spokesperson J.J. Huggins said the company has “had the bail policy in place for many years.”

Dick’s Sporting Goods made a similar statement on LinkedIn. CEO Lauren Hobart announced the company would reimburse employees up to $4,000 for abortion-related travel. The reimbursement money could also extend to employees’ spouses and dependents.

“In response to today’s ruling, we are announcing that if a state one of our teammates lives in restricts access to abortion, DICK’S Sporting Goods will provide up to $4,000 in travel expense reimbursement to travel to the nearest location where that care is legally available. This benefit will be provided to any teammate, spouse or dependent enrolled in our medical plan, along with one support person,” Hobart’s statement read, in part.

Major corporations such as Alaska Airlines, JPMorgan, Lyft, Amazon, and Apple have announced similar propositions following Roe‘s reversal.
