UN Ignores International Men’s Day, Spotlights ‘World Toilet Day’

The international observance calendar verified and published by The United Nations (UN) recognizes “World Toilet Day” instead of International Men’s Day.

Phil Mitchell, a male sexual abuse specialist who has 18 years of experience working with sexually abused males, pointed out the omission in a social media post. “Men are forced to risk their lives [and] fight in war because they’re men. Men are most victims of suicide, homicide, overall violence, homelessness and workplace fatalities but UN still refuses to acknowledge International Men’s Day but acknowledges World Toilet Day on the same day,” male sexual abuse specialist Phil Mitchell said.

Author, mental health campaigner, and psychology specialist, Martin James Seager, offered his take on the UN and its disposition towards males.

“When it comes to men the [United Nations] are UNscientific and UNcompassionate,” clinical psychologist and psychotherapist Martin James Seager said.

“When some people in a community do not have safe toilets, everyone’s health is threatened. Poor sanitation contaminates drinking-water sources, rivers, beaches and food crops, spreading deadly diseases among the wide population,” the World Toilet Day page said. The United Nations appears to have spotlighted “World Toilet Day” in order to raise awareness about the lack of sanitary conditions in nations such as the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Speaking of the DRC, on July 27th, a representative for Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, said that it was “OK” for UN peacekeepers to shoot Congolese citizens who were carrying bags of rice.

Guterres and the UN eventually banned a journalist who asked questions about the controversial incident.

 

Mithcell later followed up his initial observation by requesting comment from the UN.

“I have emailed UN asking why international mens day is excluded from their calendar [sic] & if they will include it,” Mitchell added. “Let’s see if I get a response.”

In 2020, the UN published a tweet on International Men’s Day that in the end, made the day about women.

“Happy International Men’s Day to all the male allies around the world who support women, defy gender roles, fight gender-based violence [and] stand up for equality,” the UN wrote in a tweet. “@UN_Women invites everyone, everywhere, to support #GenerationEquality.”
