‘McCarthy Killed Red Wave By Defunding Conservatives,’ Bob Goode Joins Speaker Fight

Last Updated on November 19, 2022

American voters were ready to give DC a Red Wave until the GOP leadership, like Kevin McCarthy, decided to spend donor money to stop it in the primaries- that is the narrative unfolding from angry Conservatives during this brutal fight over the Speaker of the House.

What Conservative US Rep Bob Goode wants to know is why anybody would vote for someone to be a leader who betrayed the Republican party in terms of the way donor money was used in the primary races.

In fact, McCarthy’s primary spending habits were so controversial and viewed as so counter to what the American people and Republican voters want that National File reports McCarthy crushed the anticipated ‘Red Wave,’ and he further used scandalous cash from FTX to help keep Conservative-Populists out off the ballot :

Goode (R-VA), who just won his re-election, confirms that McCarthy played dirty in the primaries by offering a factual story that McCarthy was deciding which 2022 Republican mid-term campaigns to fund based upon candidates he felt would vote for him for Speaker of the House.

That is what Goode said it came down to, and McCarthy tried to get rid of Goode in the primary.

Goode slammed McCarthy to the media numerous times, saying McCarthy was downright using donor money in primaries to fund his own chances for leadership. In fact, McCarthy financed Goode’s own primary challenger and then gave Goode the cold shoulder when he won the general and got to DC.

A recent Politico story hints at the friction between Goode and McCarthy. Goode talked to the media this week about his own side.

“I have never left a Republican meeting that was a private meeting and talked about what was said, but apparently, Kevin and his team leaked information in a way that’s trying to make it look favorable to him.  So here is my side: It was in front of the conference, I went to the mic and I two questions of Kevin who was the only candidate at that moment. We put Biggs up the next day for the vote. I just asked if he would have done anything differently over these last two years, and then I asked about primaries. I asked why we spent millions of  dollars in primaries to put our thumb on the scale of those elections. We used millions of dollars that could have been used in the general election to beat Democrats. Why would we do that?” Goode said, reflecting on his actions that day at the meeting that annoyed McCarthy so much he would leak a bad story to Politico about Goode.

“Kevin tried to be personal when he answered me and he said he gave me 2 million dollars in 2020 in the general election. And so I said, well, you actually endorsed Denver Riggleman over me in the primary and then once I defeated him in the primary you never called me. You never called to congratulate me or welcome me. So I called you three weeks later. He admitted there at the mic, that he spent money in those primary races based on who would support him for Speaker,” Goode said.

Goode has been smashing McCarthy to the media,  like in this Fox News interview, saying he has had two years to earn votes, and he hasn’t done that:

Goode told the media that McCarthy is not the right guy for the position to lead the US House, saying that his leadership was “milquetoast, weak moderate.”

McCarthy won the vote for the Republican conference, and the full vote for Speaker will take place on January 3rd, 2023, on the house floor. However, McCarthy was already 30 votes short of the 218 he would need to take leadership. Goode has told the media that McCarthy doesn’t have the votes.

In fact, no one has the 218 votes needed at this point- so the fight rages on.

“This situation gives us other options for other candidates, and to see who can put together that coalition of support,” Goode said, “We we need a fighter, and we didn’t have a fighter the last two years, we didn’t use every lever of power that we had in the minority, to do everything we could to stand against the radical Biden agenda.  That is how McCarthy is already ineffective and didn’t get the job done before.”

Goode wants someone who will reflect the people’s point of view.

“We need a Conservative whose core ideology reflects the five or six million additional votes we have gotten over the Democrat in this election; Republicans took back the house for only the third or fourth time in the last hundred year,” he said.

“The majority of Americans voted for change in the representative body. So we need conservatives and we need those who are trustworthy and are not in it for themselves and will change the status quo. If we follow, if we just fall in line like sheep and we vote for the presumed leader, then we’ll get we’ve always got,” he said, adding:

“He spent millions of dollars to try to elect people who would vote for him as Speaker. He admitted that in our conference leadership forum. When I was challenging him. I said let the people of those respective districts elect who they want to represent, which reflects that district, and then let’s spend the money in the general to get them across the Finish Line,” Goode said, concluding:

“In 49 days, we are going to answer to the American people: Do we reflect the base?  Do we reflect those who have sent us here. Are we gonna do everything we can to block and undo the Biden agenda with the power of the purse and the power of oversight and the power of funding and the ability to pass legislation?”
