POLL: 63% of Likely Voters Want Congressional Investigation of Big Tech-FBI Collusion

Last Updated on December 29, 2022

A new Rasmussen Reports national survey found that nearly two-thirds of U.S. voters want to see Congressional investigations exploring collusion between federal law enforcement agencies and social media giants. The poll comes after Twitter CEO Elon Musk released a number of internal emails and other communications detailing the company’s censorship efforts.

Rasmussen found that 63% of likely U.S. voters believe that Congress should investigate whether the FBI was involved in censoring information on social media sites. Just 25% of respondents oppose such an investigation, while a further 15% remain undecided.

Dubbed the “Twitter Files,” the latest information drops detail coordination between Twitter and the federal government in order to combat misinformation. Former DOJ lawyer James Baker — who served as general counsel for the FBI and featured heavily in the Russian collusion hoax — was involved in a number of high-profile censorship decisions at Twitter. This includes censoring former President Trump’s account and suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop story.

The Twitter Files are merely the latest news drops that detail collusion between the federal government and social media companies. An ongoing lawsuit filed by Missouri Attorney General and Senator-elect Eric Schmitt has produced documents showing that FBI and DHS officials would routinely meet with content moderation leaders from Twitter and Facebook, among several other companies.

Last week, U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan voiced “serious concerns about how and why tech companies suppress, silence, or reduce the reach of certain political speech and speakers.”

Jordan has emerged as a potential head of the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee in November.
