An explosion occurred at 7:30 pm Monday at Emery Oleochemicals chemical plant in Cincinnati, Ohio. Local authorities reported nitrogen gas leaked inside the plant following the explosion. Cincinnati Firefighters have contained the fire that followed the blast Monday evening.
Cincinnati resident Winton Terrace who lives near Emery Oleochemicals spoke about the incident in an interview with a local Fox affiliate “We could hear the warning, them telling everyone to evacuate,” Terrace said.
Jasmin Walton, another Cincinnati resident who lives near Emery Oleochemicals told Fox 19 Cincinnati, “I’m a little afraid because we are right there at the bottom of Winton Terrace, right on the other side of the factory. My daughter has chronic lung disease. So I was nervous of what the explosion was and what could come of it.”
Later Monday night, the City of Cincinnati’s Twitter Account tweeted, “ALL CLEAR – Cincinnati FD responded to Este Ave in St. Bernard for an explosion and small fire. NO HAZARD outside of the facility.”

No injuries or deaths related to the fire and explosion have been reported. The cause of the explosion and fire is still under investigation.
2023 has been a challenging year for Ohio. First, in early February, a train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, causing a massive chemical spill that resulted in water and air contamination issues that residents of Ohio are still dealing with today. Then, on March 4th, a six-alarm fire broke out in a Cincinnati, Ohio, warehouse. Also, last weekend, a train derailed in Springfield, Ohio.
