The autonomous zone in what was formerly downtown Seattle, now known as The Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, or CHAZ, continues to develop into further political chaos, with residents rebelling against the decision to allow police officers from Seattle into their zone and questioning Warlord Raz Simone’s leadership.
When a police officer tried to enter the CHAZ, activists started to argue about who has the authority to decide whether they should be even allowed into the zone or not. “I’m being a peacekeeper, and taking them to the office,” one masked activist told another.
“I do not agree with them… I’m out here every single day to make sure everybody is okay. That’s it and that’s all.”
“We’re not worried about police bro,” the activist continued, with someone immediately chiming back that they were. An argument then ensued between the two sides.

This wasn’t the only division in the CHAZ political machine. One angry resident said at a community meeting that a man who appears to be Raz Simone had “hijacked” and “taken the meaning away” from the movement.
“Don’t try to shut the black community out,” she shouted. Raz interrupted her, noting that he himself was black, but she didn’t stand down. “What kind of change do you get from bickering back and forth?” she asked Raz.
Others then tried to cut her off, but she stood firm, arguing that “if this is supposed to be a peaceful protest, use your words and your pen… Taking a bunch of folk up there to riot, what does that do?”
The woman received cheers throughout her speech, especially when she reminded Simone to remain at least six feet away from her to adhere to international social distancing guidelines.
