Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) decided to visit Salon a la Mode in Dallas, Texas Friday to get a haircut after the establishment’s owner was finally released from jail for defying the government lockdown.
Salon a la Mode’s owner, Shelley Luther, was jailed by judge Eric Moye for refusing to deliver a humiliating apology required by the judge as atonement for reopening her salon.
Cruz, who says his wife warned him that he was about to “bring mullets back” after not getting a haircut for over three months, has been a staunch advocate for the release of Luther ever since her story went viral last week.

Luther was visibly moved by the senator’s gesture of kindness, stating, “When people reach out with true authenticity, it’s huge.”
A viral GoFundMe page for Luther shattered its half-a-million dollar goal this week as citizens expressed outrage at Luther’s arrest and incarceration.
A viral GoFundMe has raised a massive amount of money in a short time for a Texas salon owner who was sentenced to seven days in jail and ordered to pay a $7,000 fine for refusing to shutter her establishment in compliance with government directives.
Shelley Luther, owner of Salon a la Mode, made headlines for refusing to deliver a public an apology for what Judge Eric Moye described as “selfishness” on Tuesday.
“She is doing what everyone else is only talking about, in a patriotic move to take back her liberty!” the description for the fundraiser reads. “Please support Shelley, and her employees by contributing to this worthy cause. You will not just be supporting Shelley, but you will be supporting the idea that our founders put in writing in the Constitution. 100% of all donations will go directly to Shelley Luther.”
As of press time, the fundraiser has reached some $370,000 in net donations, with some 10,000 unique donors, towards the $500,000 goal.
Luther cited the ability to feed her family as the reason for her defiance of government lockdown regulations.
