Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-TN) confirmed Monday that the Senate will hold a vote on the yet-to-be-determined person President Donald Trump nominates to fill the Supreme Court seat vacated by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died last week.

President Trump’s nominee for this vacancy will receive a vote on the floor of the Senate,” McConnell said. “Now already, some of the same individuals who tried every conceivable dirty trick to obstruct Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh are lining up, lining up to claim the third time will be the charm.”

McConnell continued, “The American people are about to witness an astonishing parade of misrepresentations about the past, misstatements about the present and more threats against our institutions from the same people, the same people who’ve been saying for months, well before this, already been saying for months they want to pack the court.”

While Democrats have been quick to grandstand about the damage a Trump Supreme Court nomination would do to their political effectiveness, the Republican party has fired back with examples of Democrats demanding the Senate hold votes on vacant pre-election seats under President Barack Obama.

The Republican National Committee released a supercut video Monday of prominent Democrat politicians affirming the President’s constitutional right to fill vacant seats on the Supreme Court.

GOP chairwoman Ronna McDaniel posted the video Monday with the caption, “Not long ago, Joe Biden said that ‘the American people deserve a fully-staffed court of nine.’ We agree. Fill the seat!”

Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer, Elizabeth Warren, and Kamala Harris can all be seen in the video, which closes with the title card, “2020 Democrats should listen to 2016 Democrats.”
