Cruz Reportedly Funneling Georgia Runoff Race Donations To Own Campaign, Hasn’t Committed To Challenging Election On Jan 6

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has come under intense scrutiny this week after a report from the left-wing Daily Beast uncovered evidence that donations to Cruz’s Keep Georgia Red fund, which is heavily advertised on Facebook, are actually forwarded to the Texas senator’s own campaign committee.

The Daily Beast article notes that Cruz has purchased 15 ads on Facebook that reference the Georgia runoff election in recent weeks, telling prospective voters that “Gun-grabbing, tax hikes, open borders, and stacking the Supreme Court” would be enacted as part of a “radical Democrat agenda” if Republican Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue were not re-elected to office.

According to The Daily Beast, however, the $5 donations gathered from these Facebook ads are not intended for Loeffler and Perdue. The fine print in the ads specifies that the funds actually redirect straight to Cruz’s own campaign committee.

Cruz has yet to publicly pledge support for Rep. Mo Brooks’ (R-AL) challenge to the electoral college results on Jan. 6, despite frequently positioning himself as a stalwart defender of President Donald Trump in recent media appearances.

The Texas senator had previously promised to argue a case challenging the results of the presidential election in Pennsylvania before the Supreme Court, though the case was fated to be shelved from its inception and never advanced to the Supreme Court.

A report from Politico in December noted that when Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell warned Senate Republicans to refuse to challenge the election results in a conference call, no Republican senators spoke up in defense of President Trump.

Thus far, the only Republican senator to publicly commit to challenging the election on Jan. 6 is Josh Hawley (R-MI), who stated on Wednesday, “I cannot vote to certify the electoral college results on January 6 without raising the fact that some states, particularly Pennsylvania, failed to follow their own state election laws.”

National File reached out to Sen. Cruz’s office for comment on the fundraising reports and the Jan. 6 electoral college challenge, but did not immediately receive a response prior to publication.
