Florida Governor Ron DeSantis warned Thursday that unless Americans “hold the line” against the “woke mob” their fundamental freedoms could vanish.
Speaking in Michigan at the Midland County Republican Party breakfast, DeSantis warned “This leftist agenda, the woke ideology is a threat to our freedoms.”
He continued, “It’s not limited to the halls of the legislature. So, yes, we fight the woke in the legislature, but we also fight the woke in the schools, we fight the woke in the bureaucracy, and we fight the woke in corporate America.”
“Our bottom line is we do not surrender to the woke mob. Florida is where woke goes to die,” DeSantis further urged.
He continued, “We have work to do to make sure that this country lives up to its greatest ideals. In order to do that, we must stand strong, we must hold the line, and we can never, ever back down. We’ve got a lot in the state of Florida but I can tell you this, I’ve only begun to fight.”
As we’ve highlighted previously, DeSantis has cracked down on books found in schools and kindergartens that contain graphic pornographic images under the guise of encouraging children to dismiss biological gender.
“Republicans have complained about higher education for a long time,” DeSantis said, adding “Oh, it’s so liberal, all this other stuff. But no one has really been interested in doing much about it until in Florida we took the bull by the horns.”
“Our view on higher education is the purpose of higher education is the pursuit of truth, to promote academic rigor and integrity, and to give students the ability to think for themselves and become citizens of our Republic. It is not to use taxpayer resources to advance political activism, ‘social justice,’ or another type of ideological endeavors,” the governor emphasised.
“In practice, DEI really is Division, Exclusion, and Indoctrination and that has no place in our public institutions,” DeSantis said.
Elsewhere during the appearance, DeSantis called Joe Biden “weak” and charged that he is completely “controlled by the most left party elements of his own party.”
DeSantis also hyped his opposition to government lockdowns and pandemic restrictions, noting “People around the world [came] to Florida because they understood we were not going to let the state of Florida descend into some type of Faucian dystopia, where people’s livelihoods were destroyed.”
“What we showed in Florida, is that if you show bold leadership, if you pursue a bold agenda, you can beat them. We’ve beaten them in the state of Florida,” he asserted.
