Sandy Smith has secured North Carolina’s 1st District GOP nomination to Congress after winning a primary race over several opponents. She was ultimately able to fend off big-money GOP establishment efforts to derail her pro-Trump, America First campaign. Smith has been at the forefront of the grassroots MAGA movement and has earned the support of America First icons like General Flynn, Paul Gosar, and Wendy Rogers.
The McCarthy-linked GOP establishment dumped millions into the 1st District primary race, hoping to force Sandy Smith into a run-off with Rocky Mount Mayor Sandy Roberson. While Roberson calls himself a Republican, he donates to far-left Democrat candidates and supports abortion, as well as NATO membership for Ukraine, and an ensuing war with Russia. That didn’t stop the McCarthy-aligned Congressional Leadership Fund from throwing money at his race in an effort to stop grassroots Marine mom and small business owner Sandy Smith, with that group alone dropping half a million dollars on anti-Smith smear ads in the week leading up to the election – all to no avail, as 1st District voters rejected the establishment’s ploy.
“We won!” Smith wrote in a Tweet after the race was called. “Thank you all SO MUCH. Nearly $2 million in smear ads against us and we still came out on top. No run-off,” she went on, vowing to fight for key MAGA issues like border security and energy independence while fixing the “broken Biden economy.”
We won! Thank you all SO MUCH. Nearly $2 million in smear ads against us and we still came out on top. No run-off. I will fight for border security, jobs, cutting the gas tax and fixing our broken Biden economy. I love you all! #DrillBabyDrill #CutTheGasTax #JobsJobsJobs #NC01 pic.twitter.com/9w5OuBXxsX

In her November race, Smith will take on the Democrat nominee Don Davis, a current State Senator. The two are vying for the seat held by retiring Democrat Rep. G.K. Butterfield since 2004, and analysts say the district appears ripe for flipping from blue to red. In an analysis performed by The Cook Political Report, the district was deemed a true toss-up, with heavy conservative support in the district’s rural areas and intense, widespread dissatisfaction with Biden Administration policies being seen as major catalysts to trigger a Sandy Smith victory come November.
