Every Mississippi Republican Backs Nancy Pelosi’s House Rules

Last Updated on January 3, 2023

The entire Congressional delegation from the State of Mississippi, both Democrat and Republican, has voted to retain Nancy Pelosi’s left-wing House rules amidst the hotly-contested speakership vote.

Republicans Trent Kelly, Michael Guest, and Mike Ezell have all voted for GOP establishment leader Kevin McCarthy to be the next Speaker of the House, while Democrat Bennie Thompson has joined the rest of his party in backing New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries.

Both McCarthy and Jeffries publicly support keeping Nancy Pelosi’s left-wing House rules, which disrupted more than two centuries of legislative tradition and ended the empowerment of Representatives to remove the Speaker of the House by way of the motion to vacate.
